Skills development

The planning of this production has been very different from my last years production. In this production we planned our video more in depth, we have planned every scene prior to filming. This included where we would film, what we would film, what part of the song it would be and what camera angles we would use. Planning our video beforehand has been a great help, it has meant that when filming we know what to film and that we do not have to waste time thinking of shots. Planning has helped us use our time efficiently. Other skills developed during this project has been my profficieny in using the camera's, i have learnt how to set up the camera and tripod properly and also shoot from angles that would look good. I have also improved my skills in final cut as I understand markers better. Overall this year has been different to that of last year as our group are more experienced than when we started are lasts years project. This has meant that everyone understands what shots look good and what don't and also what editing techniques we could use.

Today we filmed at Spitalfields and we filmed the main singing from different angles. I shot Aykut and Claire whilst they were sitting on the "rabbits" and they switched positions so that in the end they had both been on every single "rabbit". Another location nearby that we went to was a park where there was a zip wire. I shot both of them on the zip wire and after this they both went on the zip wire again but recorded themselves whilst on the zip wire. Of course health and safety needed to be taken into account here so they both made sure the camera was strapped on well to avoid the camera falling. We also we filmed other bits and pieces such as a log where they both jumped off and they also on something like a see saw. After this session of filming we have hopefully completed all filming, although whilst editing if we find we need more scenes we will have to film again.

The wine prop was pretty well executed, no wine involved meaning Aykut and I had to mime as there was just coloured water inside and er, not even our fictional band could claim to enjoy wine so much that they can swig it like water!

I added yellow food colouring to water in a wine bottle. 

It looked a little too yellow

Some pouring out and refilling with water soon made it look like legitimate wine :)!

We were very conscious of the safety hazards of drinking real wine whilst filming to the point where I started trying to put my acting skills to use in an attempt to make the film realistic and believable for the audience !

Something new I found over half term!

QUITE LOVING THIS MUSIC VIDEO BY THE WAY :)! I think the use of urban/ wildly contrasting settings really goes with some of our video so far, such as the fact that we are in the city, yet show a very alternative and fun/nature loving side to us! 

Filming so far..

I can't even try and claim that filming this hasn't been really stressful, I'm just hoping things start to work out a little more for us, 
We spent one Tuesday morning filming the 'performance' elements to our video, there hadn't been much communication throughout the group though so Aykut hadn't learnt the lyrics for this day, luckily we had the song on MP3 with us and so we got to shoot a lot of it. Then by the Thursday Aykut knew his lyrics and him and I filmed some pieces of him performing on my balcony to make good use of the lovely weather, Aykut filmed some awesome shots following behind me as I ran through bamboo which we agreed could make up for other shots that weren't going so well.
Yesterday we filmed some stuff around The Barbican including wine scenes but its kinda hard to do without Emily who has sadly bruised her coccyx  :( So fair play to her for not showing up! Its really difficult to film without everybody present as lots of the video circles around trios (ie 'fun fun fun') where when making the animatic I planned a lot of it involving all three of us! Hopefully Emily will be all better by tomorrow and if not Aykut, Neleema and I can come up with some new ideas for things, or we can just double up some shots so we have the same person in the same thing twice, I am SURE we can make it look cool anyway :) 


Really hoping ALL the group are getting their thinking caps on now, another disappointing filming session would really put the pressure on us for the weekend!

Our second day of filming saw us at the Barbican. We filmed in a playground which was inside the area and Aykut and Claire filmed each other whilst on the roundabout. I also filmed them smoking/drinking at various locations including near a waterfall, these shots will be used for the lyrics "And we'll be laughing about how we used to smoke all those stupid little cigarettes and drink stupid wine".  This will be a part of the song where we use illustration to show exactly what the lyrics say.
