Evaluation: Question 1 Part B Ancillary Work

During the research for my album cover, these where the guide lines I used when creating my album cover. I wanted it to be a brightly coloured album, as it would fit the theme of our music video. Also if it was displayed in a record store, it would stand out and spark curiosity amongst our target audience, as well as sparking curiosity amongst other music fans that may have not listened to our genre of music before.

For my album cover I took inspiration from the band Noah and the Whale's album cover as well as florence and the machine, due to their original and abstract styled album art. For the photo shoot, I wore the same costume as I did for the music video, for audiences to draw an immediate link between our video and my album cover. Another link between the music video and my album is the mise en scene of the ducks. The ducks Made a frequent appearance in our music video, which showed we where a fun loving immature band. Which is why I chose to include them in my album cover as well, furthermore to establish we were a British band, I chose ducks that had the British flag on them as well. Moreover, The inside and outside of my album have the same colour scheme as well as the same font, This is because during my research I have noted that any album no matter the genre have the same colour scheme as well as the same font through out. Although they are limited to around 3 colours I thought it would be appropriated to break that one convention for my album cover due to the silly fun loving and immature image our band has made for them selves.

Like I mentioned before, the album has a similar colour scheme of dark colours and imagery being repeated, i.e. the lungs on the front cover as well as on the back cover. Also the colour black being the dominant colour in both the front and back cover. However this album cover also breaks the convention of including 2 or less fonts, in fact there is use of 4 different fonts back and front. Which shows conventions can be broken by artists depending on what they mean to achieve by this. Due to Florence and the Machine going for an abstract look for there album cover, the use of many fonts in there album plays well with the abstract style.
