Evaluation: Question 1 Part A, inspiration for music video

When researching music videos we came across two theories from Andrew Goodwin and Carol Vernallis, Vernallis believes that camera work and editing is vital to a music video. As the cameras movements and edits are fast and matches the beat of a song, she says that edits are much more frequent and obvious then in a film. She believes that this disjuncture effect that makes the editing have a rhythmic base.

Furthermore, Andrew Goodwin believe that there is no structure in terms of narrative in a music video. He believes that images are repeated due to the verses and chorus being repeated in a song. He also believes that there are 3 types of music video Illusion, Amplification, Dis juncture. Illusion represents meaning and lyric through dance and other mediums, Amplification adds new meaning to existing ideas from the song, and Disjuncture contradicts the songs lyrics completely. For our music video we didnt repeat footage for choruses as we thought it would suit our bands care free image to play on that convention. Furthermore I believe our song Amplifies and Distorts some of the lyrics in the song.

During the research part of our course one of the music videos that inspired was

Mark Ronson & The Business Intl - The Bike Song. Because like the song we chose in our group there

song also had a happy cheery melody. As well as being in a similar genre of music that we picked.
heres a screen grab of the beginning minute of the songs, as the camera cuts to a green tree, possibly showing that there is nice weather and everyone is happy in the video as a result to this.

Similarly in the opening minute of our video we also included a pan of these trees, trying to create an image of our band is caring towards nature.

Furthermore in the video riding my bike, the editing is in time with the beat of the song, and towards the chorus of the song there is a quick drum beat, with a base track of rapid cuts. Which i found to be very effective. Hense inspired me when it came to the editing of our music video to include a similar element in our video when ever there was a bride between the verse and chorus of our music video.

Also, when we decided to include some stop motion animation in out music video, I immediately thought of a Youtube musician called Mysteryguitar man, who has had millions of hits on youtube making music videos using stop motion animation. So watching his videos gave me a clearer understanding of how stop motion worked and how we could incorporate it into our music video.
Moreover, we chose the rubber ducks for our animation due to them showing up in the beginning and end of our video. Showing our band to be fun, childish and immature, which was the image we were going for. Also our teacher suggested me make the ducks appear in the middle of the music video as it would add abit of continuity to our video. Which is why we chose stop motion to bring them up in an original and interesting way for the view to enjoy.

Meanwhile, nearly every music video of any genre has the artist looking straight into the camera with an extreme close up when singing, establishing a connection between artist and audience.
Such as stone sours music video Brother, where most of the song involved extreme close ups of the artist singing, we saw this as a convention that would fit in to our music video.
