Internet to gain their fame...

In 2005 Lilly Allen made her Myspace with a couple of demos on it, although being the daughter of Keith Allen I doubt many people who downloaded her music were there for this reason. Quickly her views on Myspace grew to tens of thousands and she was signed to Regal Recordings and had started working on an album with them less than a year after posting the demos!
At a glance theres some irony being as Lilly Allen is very anti piracy, because it destroys the chances for unknown acts to get signed, however she does suggest that people should be able to listen to tracks online first to see if they like them then buy them.

Also I have a friend named Kaveh, he lives in a little flat off Dalston Junction and records his songs in his bedroom, although he has his own flair for writing music he wanted to get known on the internet before trying to get signed or releasing any of his own lyrics and tunes to the wider world, one of his cover videos has almost 150,000 views and is one of the most subscribed (via Youtube) artists in the UK. The fact that more than one of my friends is regularly gaining popularity online just shows how the shift in the music industry is purely about the way people consume music and not people's attitudes towards it.
