Research: Vernallis's theory

Vernallis ‘s analysis of music videos found that editing was used more often in music videos than in films. She found that editing such as the use of effects and jump cuts were used quite frequently, also rules in editing such as continuity were broken. Music videos tend to sync well due to the use of a base track.



An example of such a music video would be “Always for You” by The Album Leaf. The first scene of this video illustrates Vernallis’s point that music videos use jump cuts often, throughout the video jump cuts are also used. The video uses split scenes which is a form of editing, this being a point Vernallis made.
